1. Overview
Website Down Watch (“we”, “us”) provides the Website Down Watch website and the Titanium Site Watch monitoring service. This notice explains how personal information is handled when you browse the website, start a checkout, connect a WordPress site, receive monitoring alerts, contact support or otherwise use the service.
Website Down Watch is the controller for the personal information it processes for the website and monitoring service. Data-protection questions and requests can be sent to support@websitedownwatch.com or through our Contact page.
2. What we collect and where it comes from
Depending on how you use the service, we may process:
- account and licence information such as your name, email address, website/domain and licence or plan identifiers;
- monitoring configuration such as public URLs, selected WordPress pages, check intervals, required text or Element IDs, and alert destinations you choose to configure;
- monitoring results such as availability, HTTP status, response time, compact WordPress health results, incident state and recovery history;
- support or contact messages and the information you choose to include in them;
- technical and security information generated by the website, hosting, CDN or security layers, which can include IP address, timestamps, request path, user agent and security events;
- order, subscription and licence metadata supplied by Freemius. Website Down Watch does not receive or store your full payment-card number.
Information can come directly from you, from the WordPress installation you connect or configure, from Freemius in relation to licences/orders/subscriptions, and from the infrastructure providers that generate security and service logs.
Account/licence identifiers, the website identity and the monitoring/alert configuration needed for a feature are required to provide that feature. Optional rules, extra alert recipients and support-message content are provided at your choice. If required service information is not provided, the related monitoring, alert, support or account function may not be available.
3. Purposes and lawful bases
We use personal information only where a lawful basis applies. The main bases are:
- Contract: to provide requested monitoring, maintain a connected licence/account, deliver configured alerts, respond to service requests and administer the features you use.
- Legitimate interests: to secure the platform, prevent fraud and abuse, diagnose faults, maintain reliability, operate support, defend legal claims and improve the service where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Legal obligation: where records or disclosures are required by applicable law, regulation, court order or other binding legal requirement.
- Consent: only where a feature genuinely relies on consent, such as optional marketing or non-essential storage if we introduce it. Consent can be withdrawn as easily as it was given.
We do not sell personal information and we do not use Website Down Watch monitoring data for third-party behavioural advertising. Monitoring results are not used to make solely automated decisions about individuals that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
4. Monitoring and WordPress data
External monitoring checks the public URLs you configure and records compact operational results such as availability, HTTP status and response time. WordPress health monitoring can report compact application-health signals, including database, maintenance, SSL and the Titanium Site Watch internal AJAX runtime result.
Required-content checks store the text or Element ID rule that you configure and the compact pass/fail result. Signed-in/member-page checks use a locally selected Monitoring test user to verify protected access and optional content; Plus and Advanced can run included protected pages automatically on schedule, and real signed-in visits can additionally provide observations. The selected user ID stays local. Website Down Watch does not send or store the account password, persistent login cookie, private page HTML, WordPress identity or screenshot as part of this check.
Selected Pages monitoring uses WordPress-side information about the configured records and their status/permalink. It is not a copy of your private page content.
5. Service providers and international transfers
We use specialist infrastructure providers to operate Website Down Watch. This includes Cloudflare infrastructure for the monitoring platform and network/security delivery, Amazon Web Services for the independent public service-health Guardian, a transactional email provider for alert delivery, and Freemius for paid plugin licensing/checkout and associated payment processing.
Freemius acts as Merchant of Record for paid software checkout transactions. It handles the checkout/payment transaction, applicable tax processing, invoicing and subscription-payment administration; Website Down Watch separately remains responsible for the product/service and for personal information it processes as controller.
Providers may process information in the United Kingdom, EEA, United States or other locations. Where UK restricted-transfer rules apply, we rely on an applicable UK adequacy regulation, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement/Addendum, or another lawful transfer mechanism made available for the relevant provider. You can contact us for more information about the safeguards that apply to a particular transfer.
7. Retention
We keep information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including service operation, security, accounting, dispute handling and legal obligations.
- Titanium Site Watch incident history is retained according to the active plan (currently 30 days for Basic and Plus, and 90 days for Advanced).
- The public status pages retain their own compact GREEN/RED transition history locally; Guardian technical history remains separate for operators.
- Monitoring configuration and account/licence data are retained while needed to provide or administer the service and may be removed when a paid monitoring connection is destructively disconnected or otherwise removed under the product lifecycle.
- Support, billing and security records may be retained longer where reasonably required for legal, fraud-prevention, accounting or dispute purposes.
8. Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances and lawful basis, you may have rights to access, correct, erase or restrict personal information, receive portable data, and withdraw consent where consent is the lawful basis. Some rights are subject to legal exceptions.
Your right to object
You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests in relevant circumstances. You also have an absolute right to object to direct marketing. Contact us using the privacy email above and tell us what processing you object to.
If consent is used for a feature, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
9. Data-protection complaints
You can make a data-protection complaint to us by emailing support@websitedownwatch.com with the subject “Data protection complaint”, or by using the Contact page and making clear that your message is a data-protection complaint.
We will acknowledge receipt within 30 days, investigate and respond without undue delay, keep you informed where appropriate, and tell you the outcome. We may ask for information reasonably needed to identify the relevant records or verify identity before disclosing personal data.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk, telephone 0303 123 1113, or Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF, United Kingdom.
10. Security and service diagnostics
We use technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the service, including restricted service-to-service access, compact monitoring payloads and independent infrastructure monitoring. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so we continually limit the data moved through monitoring paths to what is needed for the check.
11. Contact and updates
For privacy questions, rights requests or concerns, email support@websitedownwatch.com or use the Contact page.
We may update this notice when the service, providers or legal requirements change. The current version will always be published on this page.
